Primary Research

Survey

For part of my primary research I created a short survey on SurveyMonkey.com and posted it on forums such as mumsnet.com where parents can discuss parenting techniques. I created this survey in order to help me understand more about what interests my target audience out side of school. As well as this the survey also helps me to realise what the parents of my target audience are hoping for their children to gain from watching the programme.

Feedback

From this survey I have been able to learn that most parents of keystage one and two children would prefer their children to be watching television programmes that encorperated what they are currently learning in school. However there was a big emphasis on ensuring that when making my programme that I express to the viewer that learning can be made fun.

Craft Activities

It is important for me have a large amount of options of activities for the children to do, this is so that after a focus group I will have a larger and more accurate choice of what my target audience enjoy making. As well as this it is important for me to gather all the resources that will be needed for each craft well in advance as I will also need ready made examples of each activity to have on the show. Below are some possible craft activities for my target audience to participate in at home.

Possible craft activities;

Pinata

I think that a pinata would be a great product to make on the show, as not only because it is simple to make but also as it will then give the children an activity to do with there friends after they have finished making it.

 Money Box

A money box would be a very good task for the audience to recreate at home, as it would be simple enough for the younger viewers but also challenging and creative enough for the older audience member. However, some steps for making a money box are very similar and therefore I should not have them in the same show.

 Desk Tidy

This would be an excellent idea for a craft activity on the show as not only is it simply to make, but it will also serve some purpose for the children to use later. As well as this it is made from materials that the audience can find in their own home.

 Masks

Again, i think that masks would be a practical activity for the viewers to re create at home. However, when deciding what type of mask to create i must be aware that if i make it too simple like mask one, then this maybe too simple for the older age group of my target audience and they may not find it challenging enough. Therefore it is important that I get the balance right of the simplicity of the craft along with areas that may challenge the audience.

Bird Feeder

Creating a bird feeder on the show would be a very good craft to make on the show as they are quick and easy to make and they can also be made from materials that are found around the home. As well as this, they will also be able to enjoy the bird feeder for a long time after they the show as it can be refilled.

Other ideas for craft activities also include picture frames, keepsake boxs, puppets, flower fans, photo album covers and miniature gardens.

Naming my Art Show

The naming of my show is very important as if the the name does not stand out as well as explain the genre of my show then it shall not attract the correct target audience.

 List of possible names;

  • Splatter
  • Mess makers
  • Lets Paint
  • Stick it
  • Go Create
  • Smarty Arts
  • Rainy Dayz
  • Make and Do
  • Make It

 Create and Make

  • Arty Party
  • Brush Strokes
  • Get,Set...Art
  • Arty Pants
  • Art Part
  • Splat Attack
  • Thats Art
  • Arty Crafty
  • Draw and More
  •  From the possible titles above I have been able to narrow them down to one title. Therefore, the name of my show will be called 'Splatter'. I have choosen this name as i feel that it clearly represents the genre of the programme and who it is targeted at. It also goves a sence of what the audience can explaint from the show, for example, the word splatter can signify painting, getting messy and having fun.

    Themes

    Another idea that I have for my art show is to have a different theme each episode. This would be benefical as it would add more structure to the show aloowing the viewers to be able to concentrate for the entire show. As well as this, from my survey I found that the parents of my target audience would prefer their children to watch shows which educated them, showing them that learning can be fun.

      Possible Theme Ideas;

    • Romans-mozaic, roman knight fancy dress
    • The Artic - penguine money box
    • Desert - sand painting, lizard paperweight
    • Ancient Egypt - egyptain queen jewellery, pharo mask, pyramid scene
    • Spring - watering can, bird feeders, miniture garden

    • Halloween - scary masks, spider pinata, spooky decorations
    • Christmas - advent calander, tree decorations
    • Summer Holidays - ice cream money box, beach photo frame, miniture seaside scene.
    • Animals - piggy bank, bird feeder, pinata

      Even though my research shows that most childrens art programmes don't normally have a theme, I feel that this could be a good opportunity to make my programme unique in comparison to art shows that are already running.
